Dog of the Month - DASH!
In typical Jack Russell style, Dash approaches the biggest dogs at daycare audaciously and his dashing demearnor has attracted him quite the following from the itty bitty doggie committee. No two leg can resist his appeal either. From staff to clients who come in to pick up there dogs, everyone falls in love with him. When he's all played out, he kicks back in the arms of staff and stares longingly into their eyes. A charmer indeed!

Mia- 4-year-old Bichon Frise
Mia recently became a member of the Zell household which already includes Martin and Cosby and will be attending DGH with her two brothers. She is sweet, spritely and adorable, small for her breed but big in personality! She feels the most comfortable around dogs her size and on her first day played with Lily, Pippen, and Abbie. Thank you Zell family for sharing another awesome pooch with us!

DOG OF THE MONTH - Riley!
Riley is as loving as he is energetic. We call him our Little Casanova. He always wants to dance or stick his tongue in your ear. When he is not hitting on staff, he is running around daycare convincing everyone it’s a good time for a game of chase. With moves like that, it is no surprise that he has fans all over Portland and about 5 different “parents”. Best of all, in our option, is that he doesn’t mind putting on funny little hats for photos!

Mateo – 4 year old great dane mix
Mateo is officially the biggest dog to attend Dog Gone Happy on Tuesday. Despite his intimidating size, this rescue dog is an indiscriminating gentle giant whose main interest is play wrestling. Because of this he quickly made friends with Chuck, Zoji, and Ben. He always wear’s a big smile, and I mean big! We are so happy that Mateo’s parents brought him to us!

Benny – Chihuahua mix
This little guy belongs to Dog Gone Happy’s newest member of the two legs family Brittanie! He is a little shy and tends to act as Brittanie’s shadow for some of the day, but we are excited to encourage him to come out of his shell and become buddies with the wonderful dogs here at Dog Gone Happy.

George - 1 1/2 years old Bernese Mountain Dog
King George is a jovial fellow with a heart as big as his paws. He had a rough start in life and spent several months of his youth in a coma! You wouldn't know it to look it him, he is as happy and well adjusted as any dog we've met. That is in no small part due to his owner Beth who was so committed to him during that difficult time and now gets to enjoy all the fun that is yet to come!

Jackie (Jackson) – 2 year old red healer mix Jackie has enough energy to supply an entire town! He shoots into daycare like a rocket and plays until his body begs him to stop, at which time he lays back emitting pure bliss from every pore. Jackie attends daycare every other Wednesday and Friday and has already made great buds with Blue, Nexus, Peter, Davinci, and Chuck! Outside of daycare Jackie spends days “helping” his mom Michele at a vet clinic. But when he’s not working he sure knows how to let lose!

Bruno H – 7 month old mystery breed – maybe some Catahoula leopard hound?
This is our third Bruno to enroll at Dog Gone Happy! He is ALL puppy and was super stoked to meet Ampersand, a fun loving energetic mastiff/yellow lab mix on his first day. They romped and wrestled furiously. Bruno’s parents say he’s a lazy bones at home. From what we can see he is all about partying. Hmmm, wonder what goes on at home when the folks are gone?

Roux – 5 month old boxer/German shepherd mix
This little guy is sweet and shy, cautiously making his way to each resident dog to say hello. Once he knows who everyone is he flies out of his shell and turns into a rambunctious romping pup! To show his utmost appreciation for your presence, he shakes his entire body as if the last half of his body were trying to make up for his lack of tail. Roux is really too cute for words.

DOG OF THE MONTH - JOSIE!
Josie is a perfect lady – with a wild side. She charms the daycare staff by rolling on her back for belly rubs or patting us with a paw oh-so-gently. But get her excited, and you’ll get dizzy watching all the circles she runs. Josie is known for being a master of commands, and can even tell her right from her left. She also has an impeccable internal clock: at 5:30 sharp she goes on a last wild tear around the daycare yard, with a blur of delighted dogs in her wake.

DOG OF THE MONTH - FERGUS!
Fergus (Gus) started coming to Dog Gone Happy at only 5 months old and from that day has proved himself as an all around playful guy. He parties from the moment he gets here until the moment his family (Pam and Louis) pick him up. We joke that he single handedly tuckers out the entire daycare. He moves from one dog to another tiring each out in turn. It's a good thing he has such an adaptable play style and can convince almost anyone to play with him because no dog singly can keep up.

Charlie is just 6 months old and already well trained and well adjusted. His owners Jesse and Megan enrolled him just as soon as they were able. They are certainly giving this little guy every advantage in life although he hardly needs it with a face like that!

Ella S - 1 year old Austrailian Cattle Dog
We tease Eric and Gretchen that we trained their sweet little cattle dog, Ella, to give them pleading looks and little sighs. That is exactly what she does when she needs an extra day at daycare. This sweet little thing know how to get just what she wants from the humans and the dogs in her life. At daycare, she can convince even the shyest, tuckered out dog to get up and run around with her. She is almost always the last one to lay down at nap time and during playtime, the party is wherever she’s at.

DOG OF THE MONTH - ELLA!
Miss Ella (pictured on the left) is a well rounded girl who can be tough and bold at one moment and the next she is a big softy! We often find her cuddled up with someone at naptime but when it’s time to play nothing breaks her spirit and she goes all out! Here she is pictured cuddling with her good friend Zoe . Her parents report that she also cuddles up to a cat at home! But don’t tell her dog friends, she has a reputation to uphold! Her ability to make any dog (and cat) feel loved and playful is why she is Febuary's Dog of the Month!

Cora is one of the most athletic dogs at Dog Gone Happy. She leaps and bounds on play structures and around her playmates like an agile acrobat! It takes a lot of effort to single handedly exhaust so many dogs so in her “down time” she cross trains. Here she is at home working on her play muscles.

DOG OF THE MONTH - BOO!
Boo came to us as a shy and timid pup of 5 months. With a few days of slow introductions to the play group, Boo totally came out of his shell. He developed some strong long lasting friendships with Cora, Bulliet, and Theo, to name a few. When he wants to play instead of wagging his tail Boo shakes his whole body. And the cutest thing of all; his curly tail!

DOG OF THE MONTH - LILY!
Lily, AKA Miss Lilykins, is a little Boston Terrier that is more than meets the eye. She prefers to play with gentle giants such as former DGH Bernese Mountain dog Broder and Belgian Shepherd mix Loki. She stands up on her back legs and spins around for treats and become a whiz at weaving in and out of some of the bigger dog’s legs to get where she wants to go in the daycare. Whoever said big things come in little packages must have had Lily in mind!
DOG OF THE MONTH - MUFFIN!
A three year veteran to dog gone happy, Muffin knows it’s time for daycare when her owners say “you wanna play with puppies Muffin?” She responds with an exuberant “arf” and bounces off the floor as if there are springs in her feet. She is quite popular with the boy dogs, having many boyfriends including Zogi, Loki, and Dash. Amazingly she is able to juggle them all and still have time to give smooches to us. She eagerly awaits the staff’s commands and is always so excited to do what we ask. DGH is a much happier place with Muffin in it!

Martin - 3 year old mighty fine mutt
Martin came to us all the way from Tibet! His owners Alexandra and Brian rescued him and now he shares a home with Cosby, a Bischon who has been a favorite member of DGH for years! Cosby showed him the ropes his first day and helped him settle into the daycare routine. What good brothers they have turned out to be. Martin is an amazing example of the resilience of dogs and the commitment and compassion of the people who love them!

Frances - 3 year old Long-Haired Dachshund
Frances is our newest member of the itty bitty dog committee. She was adopted from the Oregon Dachshund Rescue by her wonderful parents Aggie and Mark who were looking for a companion for their golden retriever Copper (who also attends DGH). Frances is all Dachshund with her bold attitude and gorgeous feathered ears. One look into her big beautiful eyes and your heart melts, ours sure did.

Nexus - 1.2 year old Yellow Labrador
Nexus has got a bright future as a search and rescue dog like his older brother, Lopez. Its a safe bet to say he'll enjoy it since he enjoys EVERYTHING. And with practiced, patient owners like Scott and Joanne he's sure to be set up for success in anything he attempts. Nexus joined a bustling house hold of three yellow labs all of whom attend daycare!

Henry - 9.5 year old Golden Retriever
Its nice to know that at 9 and 1/2 dog years you can still party like a rock star. Looking at Henry, you would not guess he was a day over puppy. His energy level and play style suggest some vet somewhere obviously got his age wrong. Emily and Mike knew what they were doing when they enrolled their handsome boy in DGH, he has more than enough energy to go around and enough wisdom to know when its time to slow down.

Luna - 2 year old Standard Dachshund
Potzu - 2 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback
This brother and sister are assweet as they come. Potzu is a happy go lucky guy always looking to play and immediately began romping and clowning around with Jed, Odin, Jackson and Tucker, to name a few. Luna on the other hand is thoughtful and cautious in her endeavors (but really loves cookies!) and has settled in nicely with the little dogs on Monday. These two make a great addition to our Dog Gone Happy Family!

DOG OF THE MONTH - COWBOY!
Cowboy is our oldest resident here at Dog Gone Happy. At 14 he is still playful and loving, although he does poop out quicker than most. His owner Aurelia has been bringing Cowboy and his miniature schnauzer sister, Maggie here for more than five years (along with some tasty treats for staff if we’re lucky!). Cowboy’s special trick? If you sneeze at him he sneezes back! Here he is mid-sneeze!

Whiskey plays from the minute he shows up until it’s time to leave. He is energetic but gentle and staff can hardly resist his beauty! He quickly became friends with Muffin, Fergus and Chuck single handedly tuckering all three out.

This little guy lives up to his name. Either chasing or being chased he dashes around just as fast if not faster than his new buddy Chuck, a quite tall lab hound mix. His parents Lisa and Lance adopted Dash from a Jack Russell Rescue and we are so happy they have brought him to Dog Gone Happy.

BRUNO!
Bruno Brown is known for his unwavering happy-go-lucky attitude and tenacity for fun. Apart from playing with one of his many girlfriends, splashing in the pool and biting the water coming out of the hose (or trying relentlessly!) is his favorite daycare activity. Don’t worry if you’re too busy to hold the hose, Bruno Brown will hold it himself!

DOG OF THE MONTH - LOPEZ!
Lopez is more than your typical fun-loving, intelligent, affectionate and loyal yellow Lab, he is trained in search and rescue! Lopez and his human Scott spent tireless hours searching for Kyron Horman, the 7-year-old boy who disappeared from his school on June 4th. This is one among many lost people that Lopez and Scott have searched for. In fact, Lopez is also certified to search in water in which he perches on the edge of a boat scanning and smelling for clues. But he is not one to flaunt his skills and at daycare he is all about kickin’ back with his friends and focusing on having a good time.

Jackson- 10 month old Miniature Pinscher
Jackson is a little guy who comes on a day with dogs twice his size and loves it. He is as confident as dogs come. Jackson greets each new dog he meets excitedly. He’s our itty bitty welcoming committee. His owner Sara and he are two of the sweetest folks I know and we are so pleased to have them as part of the DGH family. They are friends of Cosby who visits us on Monday.

Zogi is sporting his super serious, getting-down-to-sitting-buisness face and also his joyful pool party face. If he wasn't so smart, I'd think he was a male model in a past life. He's always the first in line when the camera comes out. With a face that handsome, it's easy to see why.

As soon as Vela met Peter she knew Dog Gone Happy was the place for her. Her parents Megan and Daniel are hoping that Vela will develop some confidence here and be as happy, playful and relaxed outside of daycare as she is in it.

With a face that cute it is no wonder that Ampersand is breaking hearts left and right at daycare. Although she was a touch shy warming up, once she got going no one could keep up with her. All the boys were following her around love struck. As her owners Michael and Meagan told us when they brought her, this girl LOVES dogs!

Tepu is not at all shy about getting in the water. He's always the first one in the pool when we turn on the hoses. He leaps into the air to catch the water as it comes out of the hose. It is truly a sight to see. This picture hardly does it justice. Go Tepu GO.

Jed and Odin are the two biggest brothers you will ever meet! Combined they weigh over two hundred pounds. Teresa and Marcie have their hands full with these two playful guys and a new baby. Jed has known MJ for years (she stays with him while his owners are away) so they were right at home right away.

Dog Gone Happy has started a Doggie Dash team. The Doggie Dash is an annual fund raiser for the Oregon Humane Society taking place May 15th. People run alone or with thier dogs 1.5 or 2.5 miles to raise much needed income for the Humane Society that does so much the animals we love. Please join our team and run with us or support us by making a donation online. There will also be a sign up form in the lobby and donation can be made by check or cash. Thank you so much for supporting this event in any way you are able

Fergus (or Gus for short) is a dog who knows how to have a good time. He hit it off with one of our other puppies (Boo) right away. He has tons of energy but is quickly figuring out daycare. His owners Pamela and Louis are very committed to his training so no doubt he'll be winning best behaved awards in no time.

Bulleit's arthritic knees don't keep him from playing, chasing, and rolling over when he gets to Dog Gone Happy. He is amazingly sweet and comes to us already very well trained. Good work Elizabeth and Chris!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Our annual halloween costume contest was a great success. Thanks to all who attended. We gave out some amazing prizes and had a blast. Congrats to Ira and his owners who came in Alice in Wonderland themed costumes. Christina was the Queen of hearts, Andy was the Mad Hatter, and Ira was the cheshire cat. This is the second year in a row they've gone home with the grand prize. From the above picture, you can see why!
